Microwave Buying Guide

The most important questions to answer when buying a microwave oven are: how much space you have in your kitchen and what exactly you plan to use it for. Are you a fan of fast and economical microwave cooking or will you only use it to thaw or heat your traditionally cooked food.

Advantages of microwave

The microwave oven saves a lot of time defrosting, reheating and cooking. It also saves electricity in the range of 50 to 80%. In general, almost any food can be cooked in the microwave. Cooking, steaming, stewing, baking are possible. The main advantage of the microwave oven is that thanks to the short cooking time, the nutrients, vitamins and minerals in the products are largely retained. Therefore, it is very suitable for the preparation of diet and baby foods.

The microwave oven is equally comfortable for one or two-person households as well as for families whose members go home at different times. It is ideal for working people, the elderly and families with young children. The microwave oven is also good for use in the office or villa, where you often have to prepare something quickly.

The microwave is gaining more and more fans, and even its fierce opponents from several years ago pass into its “camp”. This is due to the fact that it copes with the warming and thawing many times faster than the traditional electrical ovens, and the new models compete with the classic and the quality of the prepared food. Moreover, there is less and less talk of harmful irradiation of foods when processed by microwaves. In addition, microwave cooking reduces the amount of utensils used because the food can be cooked and served in the same pot. It is becoming a preferred choice for both environmentalists and smart consumers because it is designed to be economical in terms of water and electricity used, which not only speaks to nature care but also reduces bills.

What do we have to do?

Consider very carefully where you want to place your new microwave in the kitchen. Pay attention to opening it. It is very important to know whether the door opens to the left, right or down. When determining the space required, take into account not only the height, width and depth of the appliance, but also the size obtained with the door open. The microwave oven should not be in close proximity to heat-generating appliances (eg electric oven). In case you want to install it, you need a wall mounted kitchen cabinet with the appropriate width and depth or a mounting frame. The stove must be at least 5 cm away from the cabinet walls in order for the air to circulate freely. On its back wall there are cooling openings through which the air must pass freely. The distance to the radio or television receivers must not be less than 4 cm to ensure a normal signal. There must be an earth connection near the location of the microwave oven.

There are several indicators to consider when buying a microwave oven. These are the size, power, presence or absence of a grill, the swivel pad, and for the more sophisticated, some extras like digital control, for example.
